Advanced Style

Lucky me, I went to see this documentary on Tuesday evening, not only that but the stars of the show were watching with me and we had a Q&A session afterwards. Twitter certainly has it’s plus points when you find yourself at a film Premier in Mayfair!

‘Advanced Style examines the lives of seven unique New Yorkers whose eclectic personal style and vital spirit have guided their approach to aging. Based on Ari Seth Cohen’s famed blog of the same name, this film paints intimate and colorful portraits of independent, stylish women aged 62 to 95 who are challenging conventional ideas about beauty, aging, and Western’s culture’s increasing obsession with youth.’

Although I’d love to share their stories with you, they are told so beautifully through the film, it would be a shame to spoil it for you! I feel lucky that I have met these ladies in person. With the eldest at 84 years, I found it hard to believe they had travelled from NY to meet and greet their fans. They are wonderful inspirational characters, carrying with them a powerful message. This documentary is not just about style, that’s simply an added bonus, it is actually a lesson in how to express yourself, something that obviously advances with age!

My gripe with the western worlds perusal of perpetual youth still remains, this heart-warming and inspirational style documentary just goes to show that ageing is what you make of it and who cares what anyone else thinks! These ladies certainly take their individuality to the extreme, in both style and personality, and that’s because they are truly comfortable with who they are, despite their age.
