Important environmental issues aren’t usually tackled by big names in fashion. The only stand out member of the fashion world who has campaigned to help save our planet in recent years is Vivienne Westwood. So it was a bit of surprise to see Kenzo weave the very important message of overfishing into their Spring/Summer campaign this season.
They have entered into a long term partnership with The Blue Marine Foundation or ‘BLUE’ to raise significant awareness on the worrying issue of overfishing and help to change this frightening statistic.
“70% of the earth’s surface is ocean, the oceans contain 80% of all life on earth, and only 3% is protected.”
BLUE’s mission statement is the active and effective protection of 10% of the world’s oceans by 2020, delivered through a network of marine reserves and private sector led solutions in the sea. To financially assist the Blue Marine Foundation with all their endeavours, KENZO has launched a line of unisex sweaters and tee-shirts with the slogan “No fish no nothing”.
Alongside their line of clothing and accessories KENZO have also been promoting ways to eat fish in a sustainable way through a series of posts including recipes tips and advice for people worldwide featured on the KENZINE blog. ‘Help us fight overfishing by spreading the word! Act Now!’
