What first drew my attention to the work of Joanna Concejo was the clever use of space and dimension within her images. Joanna often uses different media to break up the amount of space kept free on the page. She combines sketches of unequal proportions which help to tell a story. The characters sketched by Joanna often look alone and lost in the space around them.. Joanna takes influence from her childhood which explains the feeling of innocence and vulnerability within her work.
There doesn’t appear to be a great deal of information on Joanna online, but I did find this interview from OhComely which is worth a read and I would recommend following her blog, which contains more of her work. You may need to translate the page, unless you are fluent in French – which unfortunately I am not!
